Why checklists?
If surgeons need them ...
A few years ago, the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) ordered all hospitals in England and Wales to use checklists across the board. Research had shown that using a simple checklist during major operations cut deaths by more than 40% and complications by more than a third.
It seems that humans, however well educated and trained, tend to forget important steps in processes unless they have checklists.
